Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has clarified that the 30-day petrol discount introduced by NNPC Retail is not a return to fuel subsidy. In a statement on his X platform, Oyedele explained that the discount is funded entirely from NNPC Retail's profit margin and does not involve public funds. The initiative, which began on October 1, 2026, offers reduced petrol prices at NNPC Retail filling stations. Oyedele welcomed the relief for households, commuters, and transporters but stressed it should not be confused with the subsidy regime abolished in 2023.
