The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Imo State Government, will close Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri for approximately 25 days starting October 20, 2026. The closure is for runway rehabilitation and extension works. Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo stated that the intervention is critical for safety and capacity ahead of Christmas travel.
