The International Criminal Court (ICC) has rejected sanctions imposed by the United States, calling them an attempt to disrupt its operations and intimidate its staff and cooperators. The sanctions were imposed on Friday, shortly after a former ICC judge won the Nobel Peace Prize. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump would not allow the ICC to prosecute Americans, warning that the ICC must end its threats or the US would end the ICC. In response, ICC President Tomoko Akane said in a video statement that the court will not be deterred and will continue to discharge its mandate independently.
