The federal government has moved to strengthen security around electricity infrastructure by setting up a ministerial committee to coordinate the fight against vandalism, which has been blamed for repeated power disruptions and costly repairs. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe convened the committee's inaugural meeting in Abuja, bringing together security agencies and government institutions to develop a coordinated strategy for protecting assets across the electricity value chain. According to a ministry statement, the committee was constituted in response to attacks on generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure, which disrupt supply, increase repair costs, and erode investment. Its mandate includes defining each institution's contribution toward a lasting solution.
