The Federal Government has launched free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus rides for students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) and other tertiary institutions in Kano State. The initiative, under Project SPROUT, is being implemented by the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV) in partnership with FEMADEC Energy and MD GIF. The programme aims to ease transportation hardship and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's mandate to transition to clean energy following the removal of fuel subsidy. It includes the establishment of CNG refuelling stations and vehicle conversion centres in universities.
