The federal government and rice processors are in disagreement over the price of milled rice. The government argues that the current price of N60,000 to N67,000 per 50kg bag is excessive and should be reduced to N55,000 to N57,000. A meeting was convened on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, by the ministers of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari and Dr Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, along with the permanent secretary, Dr Marcus Olaniyi Ogunbiyi, and representatives of rice processors and farmers associations to address the issue.
