Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka issued a warning to scientists and technology developers about the dangers of artificial intelligence eroding human creativity and imagination. He spoke at the 2026 Nigerian Prize Awards Night organized by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) in Lagos, where the theme was Heritage. Soyinka described the threat posed by AI as real, despite its potential to advance human progress, and cautioned that excessive reliance on the technology could undermine independent thought and creative expression. He urged the establishment of boundaries to prevent machines from taking over essential aspects of human existence.
