The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested 23 suspects in connection with cult-related violence, attempted murder, and unlawful possession of firearms in Yenagoa and surrounding areas. The arrests were made during intelligence-driven operations and visibility patrols conducted between September 23 and October 8, 2026, in flashpoints including Igbogene, Onopa, Ovom, Agudama, Amarata, Swali, and Akenfa communities. Commissioner of Police Ajao Saka Adewale disclosed the arrests during a press briefing on Saturday, noting that the operations were prompted by attacks and reprisals between rival cult groups that resulted in deaths and injuries. Several weapons and suspected illicit substances were recovered, and the commissioner commended community partnership.
