Showunmi: North Must Tackle Insecurity, Poverty To Secure Its Future

Otunba Segun Showunmi, Convener of The Alternative, called on leaders and citizens of Northern Nigeria to embrace accountability, strengthen public institutions, and prioritize education, security, and economic empowerment. He made the call in an open letter titled 'Will the North Miss History Again?' addressed to the region's political leaders, elders, intellectuals, traditional institutions, and young people. Showunmi expressed concern over persistent development challenges and said the future depends on confronting difficult questions about leadership, governance, and public responsibility. He maintained that Northern Nigeria has the human resources, cultural heritage, and economic potential to achieve significant progress.
