The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, from the final list of governorship candidates for Gombe State. Pantami had appeared on the provisional list published on August 29 but is absent from the final list released on Saturday night. He emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate after defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on May 19. His candidacy was challenged in court by Ahmed Mailantarki, leading to a Federal High Court ruling that nullified the primary and ordered a fresh one, which Pantami won. The September 24 Supreme Court judgment restoring certain sections of the Electoral Act 2026, which bar parties from fielding candidates whose nominations are invalid, posed a significant obstacle.
