The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has announced that it has finalised modalities for implementing the Nigeria First Policy, which requires government ministries, departments, and agencies to purchase only Nigerian-assembled vehicles. The policy, signed by President Bola Tinubu, mandates that MDAs buy from licensed local assemblers or their authorised retailers. Foreign-assembled vehicles may only be procured with proof that no domestic alternative exists and with direct presidential approval. The NADDC stated that the policy aims to boost local assembly, reduce import dependence, conserve foreign exchange, and create jobs.
