Former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, has said he has a preferred candidate among opposition leaders seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. He criticised the opposition leaders for failing to unite behind a common alternative, warning that allowing multiple candidates could enable the ruling party to win by default. Onaiyekan spoke in an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, urging opposition leaders to set aside individual ambitions and present a viable alternative. He also encouraged Nigerians to use their votes to assess leaders' performance.
