Former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Kingsley Chinda, and Senator Saliu Mustapha are among prominent politicians included in the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) final lists of candidates for the 2027 elections. These individuals were previously uncertain about the implications of a Supreme Court judgment on party membership registers. On September 24, 2026, the apex court affirmed key provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires parties to submit their membership registers to INEC at least 21 days before primaries, congresses, or conventions. Only members listed on the submitted registers are eligible to vote or be voted for in those exercises.
