The Enugu State Government has denied any involvement in Saturday's incidents involving members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) at Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the party's state secretariat. According to the government, the airport confrontation occurred because the party attempted to hold a rally without the necessary approval from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The government also dismissed reports that the secretariat incident resulted in a death, stating that one party member, Ifeanyi Nworie, sustained gunshot injuries and is receiving medical attention. Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Ọnyia, made these statements while addressing journalists in Enugu.
