South Africa: Committee on Health Calls for Improvements in Governance in the Department of Health

The Portfolio Committee on Health has called for urgent improvements in governance, financial management, service delivery and accountability within South Africa's National Department of Health. The committee received a briefing on the department's 2025/26 annual report as part of Parliament's Budgetary Review and Recommendations Report process. Chairperson Ms Faith Muthambi said the committee expected the department to account for its performance, governance failures, audit outcomes and service delivery challenges. She emphasised that the engagements are critical to assess financial performance and whether the department and its entities are fulfilling their mandates effectively.
