Host Country Agreement between the Government of Ghana and the Holy See Approved by Cabinet

Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, hosted Archbishop Julien Kabore, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, on Friday, 9th October 2026. The Minister conveyed that Cabinet has approved the Host Country Agreement between the Government of Ghana and the Holy See. The agreement had been pending since formal diplomatic relations were established and the first Apostolic Nuncio arrived in Ghana in 1976. The agreement, consistent with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, outlines terms of Ghana's relationship with the Holy See and confers special rights, privileges and immunities on holders of Ecclesiastical Office and the Catholic Faithful in Ghana.
