—Lists 6,000 recruitments by gov By Dayo Johnson Akure Workers in Ondo State have appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to provide Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and affordable housing to enhance productivity and effective service delivery. The Head of Service, Mr. Segun Odusanya, made the appeal in Akure during the 2026 Public Service Week celebration. Speaking with newsmen, Odusanya acknowledged the administration’s interventions in workers’ welfare but noted that some challenges still affect productivity. “Transportation has become a major concern for many public servants. Rising commuting costs and difficulties in securing affordable and reliable transport can affect punctuality, attendance and overall productivity,” he said. “As part of our commitment to an efficient and productive workforce, we respectfully appeal to the State Government to consider providing CNG buses or other affordable mass-transit arrangements for public servants. “Such an intervention would ease the daily transportation burden, encourage regular attendance and improve productivity across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.” He also appealed for affordable housing for workers, saying high accommodation costs continue to put pressure on their income and wellbeing. “Access to decent and affordable accommodation remains another important concern..”We therefore appeal to the State Government to explore the development of low-cost housing estates for public servants, supported by sustainable financing and transparent allocation, to complement the existing housing loan scheme,” Odusanya said. He noted that both proposals would require careful planning and resources but deserve consideration as part of comprehensive public service reform. Highlighting the administration’s interventions, the Head of Service said the government approved an additional N500 million seed fund for housing and vehicle loan schemes, reviewed upward the loan ceilings and Duty Tour Allowance for official assignments within and outside the state, including foreign trips. He said all officers due for promotion in the 2026 cycle have received their promotion letters, while preparations for the 2027 exercise are underway across the mainstream civil service, primary and secondary teaching services and relevant parastatals. Odusanya added that government has sustained prompt payment of salaries and leave bonuses, continued gradual settlement of inherited gratuity arrears for state and local government pensioners, and harmonised pensions for retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries. According to him, about 6,000 personnel have been recruited from 2024 to date across various sectors to strengthen service delivery, while appointments into Permanent Secretary positions and other senior offices have continued to boost administrative leadership. Activities lined up for the Public Service Week, he said, include a health walk, novelty match and a public lecture themed “Harnessing Public Service for Good Governance,” along with a panel discussion.
