Isiolo Regional Hospital successfully performed its first laparoscopic surgical procedures on 14 October 2026, as the Kenya Defence Forces marked KDF Day 2026. The milestone expands surgical capabilities at the Level IV military medical facility and strengthens access to specialised medical services in the region. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive technique using specialised instruments and camera technology to perform abdominal procedures through small incisions. The hospital said the technique generally offers reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery and fewer surgical complications for Service personnel, their dependants and beneficiaries of the Ulinzi Health Services Fund.
