The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rejected the Federal Government's response to its 14-day ultimatum demanding urgent economic relief and negotiations for a new national minimum wage. In a letter to the Minister of Labour and Employment, NLC President Joe Ajaero criticized the government's stance that a minimum wage review before June 2027 would be premature. The NLC insists on immediate preparations for a new wage agreement, a reduction in petrol prices, implementation of tax relief measures from 2023, immediate wage awards, and implementation of agreements with health sector unions. The rejection raises the possibility of industrial action as the ultimatum period runs out.
