The Senate has declared that there is no vacancy in the office of the Senate President ahead of the 2027 National Assembly elections. Serving senators vowed to return Godswill Akpabio and Barau Jibrin as President and Deputy President of the Senate unopposed. Through a voice vote, they also resolved to return any current principal officials who win the January 16 National Assembly election back into their various seats. The positions include the Senate Leadership position currently occupied by Senator Opeyemi Banidele and the Senate Whip position.
