The House of Representatives has passed the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025, for second reading, advancing a proposed National Authority for Renewable Energy (NARE). The bill, sponsored by Afam Victor Ogene, seeks to consolidate renewable energy regulatory functions currently spread across different agencies under a dedicated authority. Ogene said the legislation would address structural gaps by transferring relevant functions from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Rural Electrification Agency, and the Rural Electrification Fund to the proposed authority. He noted that this specialization would improve coordination and reduce institutional overlaps.
