The World Bank and the Federal Government have advanced plans to implement 20 Strategic Catchment Management Plans across 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory as part of efforts to combat environmental degradation and strengthen climate resilience. Speaking at a stakeholders' engagement in Jos, World Bank Task Team Leader Dr. Joy Iganya Agene described the ACReSAL project as a catchment management initiative designed to promote integrated landscape management beyond state and political boundaries. She said the plans represent the first government-led watershed management initiative at such scale in Nigeria. The programme aims to secure Nigeria's water resources for future generations.
