Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi has been elected as the new President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), replacing Ahmedu Musa Kida, the former Nigerian international who presided over Nigerian basketball for two terms. The election took place at the federation's elective congress in Abuja, and Abdullahi also serves as the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria. His election was seamless as nearly all other contestants were either disqualified or pulled out for various reasons, while ex-international Ugo Udezue emerged as the new Vice President. Other zonal representatives elected to the new NBBF board include Fubara Fobika (South-South), Babatunde Oguntade (South-West), Yusuf Surajo (North-East), Abubakar Abba Kaka (North-West) and Abdullahi Mustafa (North-Central).
