A fresh legal challenge has emerged over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Gombe State for the 2027 general elections. Usman Aliyu Garry, one of the aspirants, has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), challenging the party's legal capacity to nominate Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami as its candidate. In a seven-page letter dated October 12, 2026, and received by INEC on October 13, Garry's lawyers alleged irregularities in the party's membership records and cited provisions of the Electoral Act 2026. The petition urges INEC to scrutinise the PDP's membership register and determine whether the party complied with legal requirements for submitting membership records and nominating candidates. The lawyers anchored their argument on Section 77 of the Electoral Act.
