Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu warned residents and property developers against building on wetlands and drainage channels, stating that their destruction is worsening flooding and coastal erosion. The state government suspended reclamation activities affecting wetlands, floodplains and lagoon fronts where required Environmental Impact Assessment and drainage approvals were not obtained. Sanwo-Olu spoke at the 20th Annual Walk for Nature, organised by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation in collaboration with the Lagos State Government at Lagos State University, Ojo. He noted that Lagos generates about 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, with plastics accounting for approximately 15 percent.
