The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 17 suspects over an alleged witchcraft accusation that led to a violent attack on a family in Gobirawa Village, Alkaleri Local Government Area. The suspects allegedly attacked a 60-year-old man and his family after accusing the man's son of witchcraft following the death of a 20-year-old resident, Halilu Ahmad, on October 16, 2026. Police said the incident occurred around 1am on October 18, when the suspects allegedly invaded the residence armed with machetes and sticks, inflicting multiple injuries on the man and his 30-year-old son and damaging two motorcycles belonging to the family. Preliminary investigations indicated the attack was triggered by the suspects' belief that the victim's son was responsible for the death through witchcraft.
