The Benue State Emergency Management Agency said it spent more than N160 million on treating snakebite cases involving Internally Displaced Persons between March and September 2026. The agency's Executive Secretary, Sir James Iorpuu, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Makurdi, explaining that the funds covered medical treatment and hospital bills for affected IDPs. He identified inadequate funding, shortages of medical personnel and limited transportation as major constraints on the agency's response to the humanitarian needs of displaced persons. The expenditure came amid allegations of dwindling food supplies and other challenges confronting displaced communities in the state.
