Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged Nigerians in the United Kingdom to stop sending money to relatives and friends in Nigeria who ask for financial assistance. Speaking at a town hall meeting with diaspora supporters in Manchester on Sunday, Obi argued that such financial help may ease hardship but does not address its underlying causes. He attributed Nigeria's economic difficulties to poor leadership and encouraged diaspora Nigerians to instead urge their relatives at home to vote for productive leaders.
