A fire outbreak has razed 15 shops and partially damaged 25 others at the Bodija foodstuffs market in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State. The inferno affected a row of 44 shops, with losses estimated at millions of naira, and reportedly started in one of the shops before spreading to adjoining premises. Dr Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, attributed the outbreak to a suspected fault in the electrical wiring of one of the shops. He added that the prompt response of firefighters helped prevent the flames from spreading further.
