The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr. Abba Aliyu, has cautioned that the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which seeks to establish the National Authority for Renewable Energy, poses serious risks to Nigeria's electricity market. In an article made available to Daily Trust on Monday, Aliyu said the Bill before the National Assembly would create regulatory confusion and scare investors away from the sector. He said the proposed law seeks to transfer renewable-energy functions from NERC, the REA and the Rural Electrification Fund to a new authority and to allocate 40 per cent of the Rural Electrification Fund to it. He warned that the proposed architecture risks creating another coordination problem.
