Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed, a governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress in Zamfara State, has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission over an alleged plot to submit a backdated report of the party's governorship primary election. In the petition dated October 19, 2026 and addressed to the INEC chairman in Abuja, his counsel alleged that some party members, in collaboration with some aspirants, were planning to submit a report to facilitate the substitution of his name with that of another aspirant as the winner. The petition urged INEC to reject any report suggesting that another primary was held on May 28, 2026, and to rely on its original monitoring report. It described the alleged plan as an attempt to undermine the outcome of the May 22 primary and mislead the electoral commission.
