Parents of primary and secondary school pupils in the Federal Capital Territory have expressed concern over an ongoing teachers' strike, warning that continued closure of public schools could expose children to social vices and disrupt their education. Teachers in public primary and secondary schools across the six area councils embarked on an indefinite strike on October 7 following a directive by the FCT chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress led by Comrade Stephen Knabayi. A communiqué issued after the NLC's State Executive Council meeting at the Labour House in Abuja on October 6, 2026 directed teachers under the Nigeria Union of Teachers to withdraw their services over the alleged failure of the FCT Administration to address the vacancy clause and other outstanding demands. Following the strike, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordered the six area council chairmen to enforce a "no work, no pay" policy.
