The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has disclosed that Ondo State lost more than 400 doctors to migration and other forms of workforce attrition in the last five years. The state now has approximately 500 doctors in public health institutions and a doctor-to-patient ratio of one to 6,000. The NMA chairman in Ondo State, Dr. Roland Bola Arohunmolase, raised the alarm in Akure during activities marking the 2026 Physicians' Week. He warned of burnout and premature deaths among doctors due to the increased workload.
