Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has clarified his remarks urging Nigerians in the diaspora to stop sending money to relatives at home. In a post on his verified X handle, Obi said he was advocating an end to economic dependence rather than asking them to abandon their families. He claimed his message had been distorted by political opponents despite an earlier clarification by his media office. Obi had come under attack after reportedly telling Nigerians in the United Kingdom to reconsider sending money to relatives seeking financial assistance.
