Police officers on Tuesday fired tear gas to disperse residents, journalists, activists, and political figures gathered at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos to commemorate victims of the October 2020 #EndSARS protests. Among those affected were Lagos State governorship candidates Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Funso Doherty of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The memorial, organised by the Enough is Enough movement, was disrupted before participants could lay wreaths, as police fired tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd, triggering confusion as participants scrambled for safety.
